Christine Gere Gordon
1946 - 2025

Christine Gere Gordon of Yarmouth Port, Mass., 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 22, 2025, after a 21-year journey with liver cancer.

Born on March 19, 1946, at Boston Lying-in hospital, Chris embraced life with joy, grace, and strength. She had a deep love for nature and a special bond with lakes and the sea. Whether kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, sailing, or motor boating, Chris felt most alive when on the water. Cape Cod’s natural beauty, especially its native plants, brought her great peace and inspiration.

Chris grew up in Needham, Mass., where she lived for many decades and raised her family. She and Larry moved to Centerville on Cape Cod in 2000, and then to Yarmouth Port in 2015.

Chris was a long-time member of the Unitarian Church of Barnstable, where she formed lasting friendships and participated in many groups and events. Her compassionate spirit and sense of connection were felt by all who knew her. Despite her quiet demeanor, she had a very competitive side and would assert herself whether playing bocce, pétanque, or racing her sailboat. She also enjoyed reading, hiking, gardening, puzzles, and square dancing.

Chris is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Gordon of Yarmouth Port; her beloved children, Amanda Gordon (and partner Elliot Hoffman) of Denver, Colorado, and Matthew Gordon (and wife Kelly) of Johns Creek, Georgia; and five cherished grandchildren: Jacob, Kyle, Andrew, Hannah, and Rachel Gordon of Johns Creek. She also leaves her two brothers, William Gere (and wife Beverly) of Bedford, New Hampshire, and David Gere (and wife Gisela) of Henderson, Nevada.

Throughout her illness, Chris experienced many extended periods of wellness and was able to travel and enjoy adventures in places such as Alaska, Florida, Maine, California, and the Caribbean. Her courage, resilience, and love for life remain an inspiration to all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Church of Barnstable at a future time. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Mass. Audubon Society.
